We can see who is behind a masterpiece just by looking at it. The characteristics, tastes, and styles of the artists will be clearly seen on their works because every artist wants to show it by expressing it through the work; and that is how a masterpiece tells us who its creator is. The same thing happened in Milan Design Week. There was a string female presence in that event. Some characteristics of female artisans’ work were obviously appearing. Soft fabrics in pastel colors become the dominant wrapping, and the volumes and forms are more rounded. Other than that, there were also embroidery and handmade frames in the list of pieces displayed by big names in the industry.
Subtle touch as the general characteristic of female talents’ works was just scattering throughout the event. Morosso, one from many big names in furniture industry in the event, brought and displayed colorful rugs and comfortable-looking cushions to the event. It was the form of actualization of what previously a model piece. Colorful rugs and cushions of Morosso were just sample coming in smaller scale, but now they are ready stock in the market due to the company has decided to mass-produce them.
Morosso is not the only furniture design company that has talented female designer in Patricia Urquiola who created the Fjord Armchair. Since her breakthrough back in 2002, the world of furniture design becomes more crowded with talented female designers. There are several female designers throughout European scene. The Dutch Hella Jongerius and the Slovenian designer named Nika Zupanc were standout designers who did very well last year creating great pieces for brands like Vitra, Artek and Sé.
Speaking about place chosen by talented female designers, Milan is not the only place where they display their works. There are moreover other places. There are still Lambrate, Tortona and Brera. People might not figure out that all those alternative places hide beautiful works done by talented female designers. Great thing about it is that all the talented female designers keep on creating and striving to make the industry becomes more interesting field to work.
